Mandala work
Mandala tattoos in Phoenix
A mandala only works when the balance is right. If the center is off by a few degrees, or the outer ring fights the muscle underneath it, you feel it even if you cannot name why.
I hand draw every mandala for the person wearing it. That means measuring the placement, finding the true center on your body, and building the rings outward from there.

How I plan a mandala
The first decision is where the center lands. On a knee it is usually the cap. On a thigh or back it is wherever the eye naturally rests when you are standing.
Once the center is set I decide how many rings the space can hold. Fewer, cleaner rings age better than a crowded stack of tiny detail, so I would rather give you five strong layers than nine faint ones.
Then I break the symmetry on purpose in one or two places, usually with a floral element or a drop of solid black, so it feels drawn rather than printed.
Placement that suits mandalas
Knees, thighs, shoulder blades, sternums, backs of hands, and the center of the back are all natural homes for a mandala because they give a clean round field.
If you want a mandala on a curved or tapered area like a forearm, I will usually stretch the geometry slightly so it reads as round when it is on you, not when it is flat on paper.
Sessions and healing
A single knee or shoulder mandala often fits in one session. A mandala that anchors a larger leg or back project runs longer and gets built in stages.
Geometry heals best when it is not rushed. I space sessions out so each layer settles before I add the next one around it.
Common questions
- Can you combine a mandala with florals?
- Yes, and it is one of my favorite combinations. Floral elements give a mandala somewhere to soften.
- Will my mandala be unique?
- Yes. I draw each one for the placement and the person. I do not repeat a mandala design.
- Do mandalas hold up over time?
- They do when the line weight and spacing are planned for it. That is why I keep the layers deliberate rather than packing in detail.
