How Arizona sun affects tattoo healing and long term care

Tattoos heal the same everywhere. Living in Phoenix just makes a few of the rules harder to follow, so it helps to plan around them.
The first two weeks
- No pools, hot tubs, lakes, or long soaks while the tattoo is open
- Sweat is fine, sitting in soaked clothing is not, so change quickly
- Keep it out of direct sun completely, covered with loose fabric
- Do not let a hot car seat press on fresh work
Why heat makes people over moisturize
Dry desert air makes fresh work feel tight, and the instinct is to keep loading on ointment. Too much product suffocates the skin and can pull ink. A thin layer, more often, is better than a thick one.
Sun is the long game
Once your tattoo is fully healed, sunscreen is the single best thing you can do for it. Black work in particular will soften faster with years of unprotected sun.
This is general care guidance from my chair, not medical advice. If something looks infected or is not healing normally, see a healthcare professional.
Scheduling around summer
If you have a trip, a pool season, or an outdoor job coming up, tell me when we schedule. It is easier to move a session than to heal a large piece badly.
